The company was started in the 1960's by Antoinette Gregory and is now run by Antoinette's 4th incarnation, a chap called Brian Parsonage-Kelly. Based in a lovely Grade II Listed building on the borders of Sydenham, Forest Hill and Dulwich, Antoinette's has been providing Costumes and Fancy Dress to South London and beyond, for 40 years. Go into any typical Fancy Dress shop and you will probably find nothing we stock. Almost all our clothes are unique, vintage items and we are very proud to say they are all on hangers, not in bags!!! Secondly, we don't sell anything. Actually, well, we do sell wigs, masks, stage make-up and the odd accessories, as well as an occasional modern dress or two that come to us via fashion shows, but mostly we are a hire shop. Thirdly, if "Fancy Dress" is fancy and dressy, and not cheap and tacky, then perhaps it would be best to describe us as a vintage costumiers with a fancy dress heart! We started up a UK based online sunglasses business many years ago
motivated by the lack of choice of affordable good quality sunglasses in
a market dominated by premium designer sunglasses brands. From the
outset it was clear that there was a large demand for round John
Lennon style sunglasses but we struggled to find good quality
products we could sell at affordable prices.
We were limited to either low quality products, usually sold through
costume suppliers, or very expensive high end designer products. Having
a passion for such sunglasses ourselves we decided to do something about

alternative, handmade jewellery and accessories company from the Midlands
which promises quirk and originality. Bow and Crossbones was created in
June 08 after being a little discontent with what was on offer on the high
street. Not being able to find what they really wanted they began making
pieces for themselves, that they liked and would wear. They soon proved
popular with other ladies alike, those that aren’t afraid to be a little
bit daring and different when it comes to adding that little something to
their attire.
When Bow and Crossbones aren’t busy designing and creating you can

Rocket Originals was originally formed back
in 1988 and after a break of a number of years (and also due to redundancy
from a "normal" job) we're back! Our on-line shop opened in 2006. We're based in Sheffield in the U.K. We've been collecting and wearing vintage clothing from the 1940's and 1950's and been on the "scene" for over 30 years now since when were teenagers - and we don't intend to change now. As for our business, we have our own range of Rocket Originals' shoes for men and women manufactured, we're very fussy in trying to get things right (yep, we drive our manufactures up the wall at times!) and try to get them as authentic as possible, they're made from original patterns in most cases. The men's shoes are all made here in England, as are our men's socks and belts. We're proud to be doing our bit in helping keep our British industries alive and try, whenever possible, to have our stock manufactured in good old blighty. Our ladies sweaters are also manufactured in England. All the designs are taken from vintage knitting patterns, and one of the companies we use still has a vintage mechanical knitting machine, so we have some of ours knitted on that (very authentic!) We get asked "don't you knit them yourselves" - well, no we don't (we can't knit that well, it would take forever and wouldn't look nearly as neat!) As well as selling through our website we like to get out there and meet people and sell at various events, and we'll be having a stall at quite a few weekenders etc this year, which will be listed on our homepage as and when they come along. We also have an eBay shop. |
