The Romance of Rosy Ridge

1947

Starring
Janet Leigh
Van Johnson

They say that Van Johnson was superstitious
and always wore red socks when filming.
(What McCarthy`s witch-hunt would have made
of this a few years later, I don't know).
In this tale Janet's screen dad, Thomas Mitchell,
is more pre-occupied with the colour of Van Johnson's character's britches
(was he a brave rebel or a damned Yankee in the war?
- the colour of his britches holds the clue).
"Introducing Janet Leigh as Lissy Anne MacBean"
was the billing .

After the civil war, a feud develops between returning rivals
while a farmer's daughter discovers her first love.

This was Janet's first film and the first of three she was to make with
Van Johnson
He, "reputedly" came up with her
movie name.
(She is said to have complained that it was too similar to
Vivien Leigh
and may confuse the public, but Van pointed out that he was rarely confused, with that other famous 'Van' of the times, Van Heflin).

They say that when she was told she was to go on location,
Janet was so naive, that she fretted, because she couldn't afford the fare,
and had to have it explained that the studio would pay.
