fails to get a star rating in the good motel guide.
Looking at this film
these days, the impact it had at the time is very difficult to
imagine,
maybe because our senses have been dulled by more explicit
in-your-face horror imagery that we have been subjected to since
the film was made.
"Psycho"
as with any other classic movie you may care to mention,
is flawed in places, but is still a masterpiece of suspense,
with brilliant performances from all the players,
superb direction and tongue-in-cheek elements from Mr. Hitchcock.
The
Shower Scene
must be one of the most parodied scenes ever.
Janet Leigh's contribution to the film should not be
underestimated
as she gives the performance of her life!
YES she DID do the shower scene.
NO there WASN'T a double!
Janet said that she would have done the part for nothing to work
with
Alfred Hitchcock.
Janet earned $25,000 for
the part,
$15,000 less than her character Marion Crane absconded with.
To this day, she always takes a bath with the bathroom door open
and facing the door wherever possible.
It is worth seeing the
"teaser" promotional trailer that Mr. Hitchcock made,
in which we see him "hamming it up" in his inimitable
style,
as he gives us a guided tour around the Bates House,
the Motel and The Room
"where it happened".

Sir Alfred Hitchcock
