A young widowed mother
falls in love with a toy salesman,
who is a budding boat-builder.
Romantic complications develop over the Christmas holidays in New York.
You get the feeling
watching this film
that the cast really enjoyed themselves making it.
Robert Mitchum and Wendell Corey spar verbally brilliantly
and there's a fine supporting cast including a very young
and entertaining Harry Morgan, later of M.A.S.H. fame.
There are several memorable scenes
( by the Christmas tree, the courtroom, the Christmas lunch )
and the picture is a joy.
Originally titled "Christmas gift".
This is a great " feel good" comedy.
