Autograph dealer Mick Spring runs the MSPG autograph dealership
and is a registered dealer with the governing body of autograph
dealers, the UACC. Following the increased popularity of the hobby
with the advent of mass communications and the Internet, there has
been a dramatic rise in the number of fakes on the market and on
the electronic auctions. Here, Mick gives some hints and tips for
the collector entering the potential minefield that is the world
of autographs. (Autographs displayed on this page are from the author's

Try to buy from registered dealers of either the UACC or the IADA
or from other reputable dealers that you have learnt to trust. Not
all dealers are registered.
Ask all the questions you have about a piece before you buy it.
There isn't a reputable dealer out there that will not give you
their time and advice.

On the auctions, we advise against using sellers that hide their
feedback (private). Why hide it unless they have something to hide?
Never buy anything that does not come with a lifetime guarantee
with money back.

Always get full contact details - and we mean a telephone number
and address not a PO Box.
Educate yourself about what you want to buy, check the prices and
try to find different examples to compare them. We know that you
will never stop the forgers out there, so we believe that education
is the next best step. Use the rules above with others you learn
on the way and you will be on the road to an authentic collection.
